Hugging the coastline of Portugal is the Atlantic Ocean. Covering just over 25% of the Earth’s surface, the Atlantic is the second biggest ocean.
It takes its name from Greek mythology, ‘Atlantic’ is translated as ‘Sea of Atlas’. Atlas was the titan punished by Zeus to forever hold up the heavens, standing on the edge of the earth.
The Atlantic waters around Portugal are usually cold year-round, which makes for a refreshing dip after a day in the hot summers sun.
